Dear friends,
I am writing to give you news of the ANCIENT DIOLKOS, the Greek monument of 600 BC that has been left to decay since its excavation (~1960).

International ridicule and Justice investigations have finally induced the Greek Ministry of Culture to some movimentation. In 2009, some elementary protection work has been done at two erosion fronts. (image: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/3867/diolkos2009s.jpg)
But the rest of the exposed Diolkos is still deteriorating, as you can see in a recent video, at http://www.youtube.com/user/sofiagreek#p/u/0/4_5H_GGIUKk
I invite you to watch this short video and, in case you haven't done so already, please sign the petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/870477005
Although the Ministry say they "will" take care of Diolkos, I feel more pressure is needed, or nothing or too little will be done...
The fact that the Diolkos was falling down for 50 years without any substantial reaction of the Greek Ministry of Culture – worse still, with false assertions of care (!!!) - shows that the Ministry cannot be trusted, that it generates destruction, and that it should be put under international surveillance and restructure its internal mechanisms in order to be able to control the monuments it is supposed to protect.
Thank you very much,
